Talent

13 PostsThere are 2x26 abilities in the game for a field player to be learned. Depending on the talent a player can learn from 8 (zero talent), 12, 18, 24, 30 or 42 (five talent) abilities.
So I apply the cheat and change a player from zero talent to three talent. On the player page he is now displayed with three stars, however on the progress page I still only have 8 abilities available to choose from. Even if I save the game and load again this page does not refresh to reflect the higher talent. In game, for testing reasons, I even dissolved the player's contract and then signed him up again as a free agent but the progress page does not refresh then either if he is new in the squad.
Could that talent cheat be reviewed if it works as per game mechanics or is it only thought to be for the display (i.e. just a cosmetic cheat) ?
Alternatively, if there is a different cheat that unlocks all abilities to be learned regardless of the talent value, then that would probably be a good workaround.
On that subject, would it be possible to add a cheat to increase the maximum amount of abilities a player can learn (2x6) ?
Alternatively a cheat with a value box where the abilities are numbered and one can simply add/remove a certain ability to a player regardless of talent, regardless of abilities already learned, regardless of the ability being locked/unlocked, regardless of learning it.

the skillsystem of this game is one of the most annoying things in my opinion and probably the one for me to not play this game myself (I simply much more like the old FIFA Manager games)... I never figured out why there are so many skills, but I cannot unlock more than 6 even with the best talented players...
for sure I noticed that the talent defines how many skills are gray vs. black, but as you said changing the talent have no effect on the possible skills... it seems like the game defines this somewhere else in the structures and maybe at the same point as the learned skill itself... I also tried in past to modify them directly to have them always on max level, but the game overwrites these values frequently and I didn't found out where or how to fix this problem in a clean way... in my opinion the only effect of the talent is the learning speed of the skills so far 😐

I can replicate a scenario where you might be able to see how the game defines which skills are gray or black. It seems like that is defined at the start and then remain (each time you start a new game the unlearned skills are different on the skillsnet) :
If I hold a youth screening day I can use your console cheat for a youth players talent, for example set it to 5 while on the selection screen, then accept the player into your youth team and ALL skills are gray to be learned), if you first accept him into your squad and then change the talent to 5 the skills remain black. If I change a player from a different team to talent 5 and then hire him into my squad the skills are also black so it seems as if this values gray vs black is defined when a new player is created by the game (and likely at game start for all existing players - before you can even take action and apply the cheat.

Thanks for the reply. I have not actually played much, not even a full season. I just played it because there is a mod database out there where someone created the two top Irish leagues so I got interested. I don't mind the limit 6 too much, I just mind that you can't "unlearn" a skill so you might have a striker with a akill "build-up play" or a defender with "goalscoring instinct", these skills are then not needed but block a valuable slot.

my last assumption was that the skills etc. are only located as temporary copy for calculations on the player and the real values are loaded from database each time you open the skilltree... this would lower the memory usage of the game and explain from where the values are coming / overwriting... however, I don't think it makes sense right now to spend more time on this with V1.15... but maybe I've a short look on it again with the update to V2.00 in the next days, because the new DLC updated the game to V2.00 (only if you play this) and there are a lot of changes necessary to our cheats resp. seems like it will be a massive rework 😕
