I have the correct version selected and I have reached the point where I can use the keys, I have already used one, however the cheat does not appear to be working .

Did you spend a golden key after activating the cheat?

I'm having this issue too. All codes work except the one for golden keys. How do I verify what game version I'm running? Playing on steam.

Are you playing via Steam oder Epic?
Did you make sure to select the correct version (steam/epic) in the trainer?
